A sudden surge of strength just prior to landfall produced 125-knot winds in parts of the eyewall of the tight, 5-mile wide eye as the storm made landfall about 3:20 PM EDT (1920 GMT). The storm traveled diagonally across the state on a north-northeast path through Orlando. The image of Charley appeared like a horse, the symbol of war and a male phallic reversionist.
