She worked at Krispy Fried Chicken in Mexia, where she met Billy Wayne Smith, who was a cook. They were married April 4, 1985 when she was 17 and he was 16. They had a son, Daniel Wayne Smith. They separated in 1987, and she divorced him February 3, 1993. She worked at Wal-Mart, at Red Lobster, and as an exotic dancer. In 1991, she took modeling and voice lessons. After answering an add to audition for Playboy magazine, she appeared on the cover of the March 1992 issue of Playboy, She became Playmate of the Year in 1993. She had became an instant celebrity.
In 1991, she met oil billionaire J. Howard Marshall in a Houston strip club where she was working. At 26 she married Marshall, 89, on June 27, 1994. Thirteen months later, on August 4, 1995, Marshall died. Although Marshall's will did not include Anna Nicole Smith, she went to court and claimed half of his $1.6 billion estate. A California court awarded her the money, but a Texas probate court rejected her claim. After a federal appeals court claimed to have no jurisdiction, the Bush Administration got involved to support Anna Nicole. The case went to the Supreme Court, which did not award any money to Anna Nicole, but ruled that she had a right to pursue the case in federal court.
In October 1994, Anna Nicole filed a lawsuit against New York magazine for $5 million over a modeling photo that appeared on its cover. Smith claimed it demeaned her reputation.
After her weight ballooned, Smith became a spokesperson for TrimSpa, which she credited for losing 69 pounds. She appeared in several movies from 1994-2005. In 1997, she starred in the movie, Skyscraper, which she produced. In 2002, she had her own reality TV series, The Anna Nicole Show, which ended in February 2004. By November 2004, her slurred speech and odd behavior led to speculation of a prescription drug problem.
Birth and Death
Smith gave birth to a daughter, Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern, on September 7, 2006, in Nassau, Bahamas, where she was living with her lawyer, Howard K. Stern. However, DNA tests after Smith's death proved the father was her former boyfriend, photographer Larry Birkhead. Three days after the birth of Smith's daughter, her son, Daniel Smith, 20, died on September 10, 2006 while visiting her and the baby at the hospital. Anna Nicole was grief stricken and went into deep depression. She tried to crawl in his casket to be buried with him. She said she dreamed about him every night. Her nightmare was that he was stuck in purgatory and was calling to her to come to him. The autopsy on her son revealed that Daniel had died from a lethal combination of Zoloft, Lexapro, and methadone. Methadone is used for treating heroin and morphine addiction.
To top it all off, on September 28, 2006, Day 271, Anna Nicole entered into a commitment ceremony with Howard K. Stern aboard a catamaran off the coast of the Bahamas. Although they exchanged vows and rings before a Baptist Minister, there was no marriage certificate, and the ceremony was not legally binding. Photos of the event were sold for about $1 million.

Death
On February 8, 2007, Day 39, at approximately 1:23 PM EST (1823 GMT), Anna Nicole Smith, 39, was found unconscious in room 607 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida by Tasma Brighthaupt, a friend of Smith. Brighthaupt performed CPR for 15 minutes until her husband, Smith's bodyguard, drove back to the hotel and took over. He called the front desk at 1:38 PM EST. She was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. The autopsy indicated that Anna Nicole died of a prescription drug overdose of the sedative chloral hydrate, which became lethal when combined with other prescription drugs in her system. No illegal drugs were found in her possession.
Smith's will named her son Daniel as the sole beneficiary and specifically excluded other children. Howard K. Stern was named executor. After proving that he was the father of Smith's daughter, Larry Birkhead was awarded custody of the child. He then entered the fight over Smith's estate, valued at about $1.8 million.
Burial
Anna Nicole Smith's burial was delayed until March 2, 2007 due to all manner of legal issues, such as determining the cause of death and who was the father of her child. There were also last minute attempts by her mother to prevent her from being buried in the Bahamas. However, she was buried in the Bahamas next to her son.
Even the burial of Anna Nicole Smith caused a storm. Tornadoes that ravaged the southern US the night before and during the morning killed 20: 10 in Alabama, 9 in Georgia and a 7-year-old girl in Missouri.
